In order to encourage designers and inventors from the Northeastern part of the country, The Wisser Innovation Prize has been launched. This competition has been organised by The Hub Jorhat, Bosco Institute and Childaid Network in collaboration with Dhriiti-The Courage Within.
The aim is livelihood generation for the rural artisans of the region. It seeks to identify product designs and solutions with natural resources available in the Northeast region and enable the generation of livelihoods for rural public. The selected innovators or teams would be awarded cash prizes worth about INR 4 Lakhs and support by design and business mentors from across the globe.
The competitors can apply as an individual or as a team with a maximum of 3 members. In case of individual participant, the applicant should be from one of the eight states of the Northeast India. And for teams, at least one of the team members must be a resident of any of the Northeastern states. Both students and professionals can apply with their innovations and designs for the Wisser Innovation Prize. The last date for entries is the 15th of July.
“4 selected products or ideas would be provided cash prizes and mentorship support for prototype development.The selected innovations would be piloted to build a complete product value chain as a micro enterprise cluster for rural artisans. The intent is to select design solutions with the given natural resources which have the potential to be produced by numerous micro/nano enterprises in rural areas and create livelihoods for rural artisans.” said Father Jerry Tom of Bosco Institute in Jorhat.
