Invoices of Food Businesses must carry their FSSAI Registration Number

The Food Safety and Standards Regulatory Authority of India ( FSSAI )has recently made an announcement asking all eateries and food businesses to display their license number or registration numbers on all invoices and receipts by the 1st of October 2021. This will bring even restaurants and hotels under the norms of packaged food.

Previously only packaged food like ready to serve products and packaged food ingredients needed to carry their license number or registration number distinctly on their labels. Since a vast majority of restaurants and other eateries use third party packaging boxes and other materials, its nearly impossible to track them. So it has become necessary to mention the registration number on the invoices.

Mentioning the registration number will help in keeping a track of the orders as well as quality control of the products that are being sold. This will also help in the resolution of any complaints or disputes. These numbers will enable the tracking of the order and the eatery which has sent it out in no time making it easier for any customer to raise a complaint. Also it becomes difficult to to resolve the issue from the FSSAI side.

The regulatory authority is also working on implementation of a color coding system to distinguish different ingredients.
