The Northeastern part of India, specially Assam has been moving leaps and bounds in terms of export of locally produced fruits and vegetables. And the latest products to be exported include jackfruit and chilli from Assam.
Tender jackfruit and fresh chillies grown in the Dhubri district of Assam are the new export products. The consignment comprises of 1.5 tonnes of tender jackfruit and 0.5 tonnes of fresh chillies. They local produce was initially collected in the Bilasipara sub division of Dhubri district before shipping to Guwahati. from there it was airlifted to Mumbai and then to Dubai. It was then distributed across more than 200 supermarkets across the United Arab Emirates under the Lulu Group International.
Lulu Group International is the organization responsible for the import and distribution of the produce. And this whole project was coordinated by Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, Government of India. It will not only help the farmers of the region attain a proper price for their produce, but also make these products available in the regions where they do not grow. Usually these products are sold a very marginal price in the local markets of the region.
Last year a consignment of jackfruit from Tripura was exported to Germany.
