Conrad Sangma, the chief minister releases the Meghalaya Tourism Policy 2023 in the state capital on June 30. The Tourism Minister of the state Paul Lyngdoh was also present for the event at the State Convention Centre.
“The policy broadly has two sections. One is the vision statement core guiding principles and two is the part which deals with the thrust areas.” Said the tourism minister while talking to the media. He also added that the government has already identified 10 thrust areas under this policy. And that this policy will propel the state towards becoming a major tourist destination.
Conrad Sangma also launched the Prime Tourism Vehicle Scheme on Friday. This scheme aims to provide high-quality travel solutions across Meghalaya. It is aimed at supporting tour operators and individuals working in the sector. And a comfortable and seamless travel experience for the tourists.
He also flagged off 16 Toyota Innova Crysta vehicles under the Prime Tourism Vehicles Scheme. These vehicles are expected to provide comfortable transportation while exploring the state. By enriching the travel experience, the government wants to boost the tourism sector.
Earlier the tourism department had shortlisted 50 out of 600 applicants for the scheme. The government is offering a 50% subsidy to these people for procuring these vehicles. The Prime Tourism Vehicle Scheme also gives a loan repayment time of two years.
The CM mentioned that his government is committed to promoting tourism and creating a better ecosystem for the entire sector. He added that a minimum of 50 such vehicles will be financed in the current financial year. And based on the response and usability of these vehicles, the scheme will be extended. Also, the government aims to extend the number of such vehicles to 250 at the end of five years.
