In a significant development in domestic tourism of the country, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the two states of the country. The Government of Goa and the Government of Uttarakhand have signed this agreement. It will enable the promotion of domestic tourism between the two states.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte and Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The agreement aims to promote bilateral cooperation in the travel and tourism sector. It also facilitates travel between the states to increase tourist flow to both destinations. It is a significant step towards the promotion of the rich cultural and environmental diversity that India can offer tourists. The MoU also aligns with the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ initiative launched by the PM to promote domestic tourism.
The MoU makes way for direct flight connectivity between the two Indian states. This will reduce the travel time from the existing 7 hours to 2.5 hours. This will not only save time but also allow tourists to see two completely different landscapes in one day. The MoU also makes way for joint travel packages for both states. Leading to the promotion of tourism products like adventure, religion, wellness and ecotourism.
Uttarakhand and Goa have completely different cultural and tourism identities. This MoU will also make way for cultural exchange between the states allowing local cuisines, folk arts, handicrafts etc. Also, the governments will arrange events including cultural exchange programs, roadshows and festivals. The governments willl also encourange training and capacity building between two states. Making way for ample training for the professionals in the tourism sector.
Budget flier Indigo will operate 3 direct flights between Goa and Dehradun airports every week. Captain Sasha Saldanha who hails from the Parra village of Goa will handle the inaugural flight.
