Khasi Mandarin is one of the GI-tagged products from the Northeast Indian state of Meghalaya. And now this fruit is available in supermarkets across the United Arab Emirates.
A large consignment of this local produce from Meghalaya was exported overseas recently. It was cultivated across the South West Khasi Hills district of the state. The Ardong Phlangwar Organic Producers Co-operative Society registered in Meghalaya took care of sourcing the best quality fruit from the farmers of the region.
The exported consignment consisted of 2 Matric Tons of fresh Khasi Mandarin. This consignment was sent a few days back from the state. Before this batch, the state had sent a smaller test batch to the UAE. This was done in the beginning of December month. A Jirang- based Farmer Producer Company had sourced that batch from the farmers of the Ri-Bhoi district. Once the buyers were satisfied with the product, the new larger batch was exported by the state.
The UAE based Lulu Group has organised the showcasing and selling of the fruit. They are instrumental in making Khasi Mandarin available in the supermarkets of the Arab region.
