After Bottles & Cookies, Tripura Comes Up with Bamboo Rice

After producing and popularizing bamboo bottles and bamboo cookies just when you thought what else could Tripura do with bamboos, the state came up with bamboo rice!

On Monday, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb launched Bamboo Rice produced from the flowers of the bamboo. The bamboos which have aged 30 to 40 years produce these flowers from which the rice can be made.

The rice has anti-diabetic elements and also helps in reducing joint pains, back pains along with other pains. “By taking it regularly, you can get rid of cholesterol related problems. Intake of bamboo rice is extremely useful to provide adequate vitamins to pregnant women”, said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister further stated that Bamboo rice has more protein than normal rice and wheat. He also said that producing bamboo rice will not only be economically profitable but also make the locals self-reliant.

Reportedly, Tripura boasts of over 20 species of bamboo growing within the state. Lately the state has been utilizing the available resource in various innovative ways. Few months back the state came up with the idea of producing water bottles made of bamboo. The product hit the limelight after Bollywood actor Raveena Tondon placed an order and tweeted about it. Soon, orders started to pour in for this eco-friendly replacement for plastic water bottles. Later, the state also produced cookies made from Muli bamboo.
