Arunachal’s Lower Subansiri District Obtains Organic Certification for Kiwi

Arunachal Pradesh‘s Lower Subhansiri District has become the first in the country to obtain Organic Certificate for Kiwi. This district produces one of the highest amounts of the fruit in India.

Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday took to twitter to share the news saying, “Happy to share the news that #Arunachal is first in the country to obtain #OrganicCertification for #Kiwi under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER). Hearty congrats to farmers of Lower Subansiri district for achieving the feat”.

As per reports, the organic certification process took off in the year 2015-16 under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER).

The packaging and handling materials were handed over to the members of Subansiri Organic Kiwi & Large Cardamom Farmers Producer Company (SOKLCFPC) Ltd. by Agriculture Minister Tage Taki on 17th October in a programme organized by the agriculture department.

Kiwi is one of the latest non – indigenous food crops to be cultivated in India. The Northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Manipur are growing and exporting a huge amount of this nutritious fruit. Apart from the direct consumption, jelly, jam, crush, squash and even wine is made from kiwi.
