Kamrup Metropolitan District Authorities on Thursday has placed a request to the state authorities to allow eateries in Assam to operate till 11 PM during the days of Durga Puja.
In the letter written to the Prinicipal Secretary, Govt of Assam, Health and Welfare Department, the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan District wrote, “I have the honour to forward herewith a letter recieved from All Assam Restaurant Association with a request to allow restaurants to operate till 11 PM during Durga Puja for favour of your kind information and necessary action.”
Earlier, the goverment had allowed the restuarants to operate only till 9 PM during the days of Durga Puja. This step was taken in order control the travelling and crowding of people on the days of the festival and keep a check on the Covid-19 situation.
With the public slowly trying to get back to their favorite eateries post the Covid-19 lockdowns, restaurant owners were expecting a good sale on the occasion of Durga Puja. The previous order by the State government to close doors by 9 PM had put a lot of pressure on the owners. Important point to be noted is that the stocks also needs to be purchased beforehand as markets wont be operating at full capacity during the days of puja.
