The Guwahati Tea Auction Center (GTAC) on Thursday made a sale of Manohari Gold Specialty Tea at a whooping price of Rs 75,000 per kg. As per reports, this is the highest price at which tea was auctioned in Assam this year.
The tea has been purchased by a Guwahati-based tea trader Vishnu Tea Company from Contemporary Brokers Private Limited. The Vishnu Tea Company plans to sell the special tea globally on their e-commerce website 9amtea.
“This is a great achievement amidst the global pandemic when the entire world is affected. Manohari Tea Estate has made extra effort to produce this specialty tea in the month of September and sent it to GTAC for sale”, the GTABA secretary said as reported by PTI.
The tea was named as the Golden Tea because only the soft golden tips are used for making this rare and special tea. This Assam tea is rich in antioxidants and gives out an aroma with a yellowish color.
Due to aroma and chemical composition, Assam Tea is one of the largest exports from the region. The same mark of tea set the previous record as well sold at Rs 50,000. These specialty teas are generally used for gifting purpose and not sold in the open markets.
