Kamrup District Administration on Thursday shut down the Beltola daily and weekly market in view of the large gathering of people and non-maintenance of Covid-19 protocols.
The decision was announced in an official statement released by the District Administration.
According to the statement, social-distancing was not being maintained in the mentioned market which led to the shut down. The decision was also prompted by the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in Guwahati.
Any violation of this order will attract penal action under relevant rovisions disaster management act 2020. The order shall remain in force till further notice.
So far, Assam has 2400 active cases of Covid-19 with 9 deaths.
On Tuesday, Assam government imposed total lockdown in 11 wards of Guwahati in the wake of the surge in the number of Covid-19 cases. The order shall remain in force for 14 days. Read more in this article in Discover East.
State Minister Pijush Hazarika on Wednesday hinted that Guwahati might go into total lockdown if Covid-19 cases continue to rise.
Due to the ongoing risk of Covid-19 infections, even the Kamakhya Temple management had requested devotees not to come for the Ambubachi Mela this year.
