In a bid to boost tourism in the state, Bihar government has come up with the concept of opening ‘Dhabas’ on all the state national highways. The move has been confirmed by Jibesh Kumar, Tourism Minister in the Nitish Kumar Government. He said that the proposal has been sent to the CM and is awaiting approval.
The proposal cites construction of a Dhaba Complex at every 30km on the National highways and state highways, apart from four and six lane stretches connecting tourist places such as Gaya, Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, Pawapuri, Bagha National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, Sitamarhi, Kaimur, among other places.
Reports suggest that the Dhaba concept was inspired by the 302-km long Agra-Lucknow Expressway which has ‘Dhabas’ at a distance of nearly 100 km.
The dhaba complex will be equipped with restaurants, medical shops, parks ice-cream parlours etc. As per reports, the tourism department will take the responsibility of maintaining the hygiene of food and washrooms.
The Dhabas will be constructed with an aim to create employment opportunities as well as generate revenue. It will also increase the safety measures on these highways. Also more efficient and affordable amenities will be available for travelers.
