Celebrity Chef Vikas Khanna launched the largest food drive in the world ‘Barkat’ on Wednesday. The drive is aimed at providing relief and aid to vulnerable communities like differently abled, transgenders & sex workers. It was launched across Delhi-NCR.
The drive aimed at distribution of over 10,000 bags, containing ration worth 200 meals each, across different parts of Delhi-NCR by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Khanna created the #FeedIndia initiative in April, and has since then he has organised and distributed more than 10 million meals and food kits across 135 cities. The NDRF and Mumbai based communications firm supported Khanna in this initiative.
“I am humbled to work on an event tirelessly that supports people with disabilities, transgenders, sex-workers, AIDS patients, orphanages, old-age homes and leprosy centres”, said the chef in a report.
“We will also be reaching out to abandoned parents’ homes. I am unable to comprehend how people can abandon their parents,” Khanna added.
Khanna expressed gratitude to the corporate and individuals who supported him for this drive. Among corporate who contributed towards the drive were India Gate Food, Patanjali, Jivana Salt, and Daawat rice.
