The Northeastern region of the country is moving leaps and bounds in terms of export of food products. And the King Chili of Nagaland is the latest to be added to the list.
A huge amount of one of the hottest chili peppers, the King Chili, produced by the farmers of Nagaland was sent for sale in the markets of London. These were sourced from Tening in the Peren district of Nagaland. Although it is cultivated in different parts of the worlds under many names, and many hybrids have been created using the King Chili, the state of Nagaland holds the Geographical Identifier (GI) tag for this chilli pepper.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Nagaland State Agricultural Marketing Board (NSAMB) collaborated to export this consignment. Proper packaging for the same was done in Guwahati.
Making exports of local produce enables local farmers to get a good value for their products even during these lockdowns. Previously APEDA had also enabled export of several other agricultural commodities including Burmese Grapes, Lemons and Red Rice from Assam and Jackfruit from Tripura.
