The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Wednesday cancelled the licence of a sweet shop in Thottipalayam near Coimbatore for advocating and selling ‘Mysurpa’ sweet as a cure for COVID-19.
The sweet shop owner claimed that the sweet ‘Mysurpa’ in his shop can cure Covid-19 patients and also boost immunity.
According to reports, the owner has kept a dosage chart in his his shop for the sweet which he named ‘Photon Speed Corona Cure Mysoorpa’. As per the chart, the sweet should be chewed 13 times inside the mouth with closed lips. The shop was charging Rs 50 for 50 grams of the sweet, a report stated.
The owner was booked under sections 53 and 61 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, for selling the sweet as a cure for COVID-19 without approvals from any department. He was also charged for spreading misleading information through advertisements about curing the disease within 24 hours of the consumption of the mysurpa.
This news comes a day after another eatery in Madurai continue selling Mask shaped Parottas to spread awareness about the Covid-19 infections and importance of wearing masks.
