If you are a non- vegetarian but also has a soft corner for animals, you must have been touched by the thought of being a vegetarian at least once. And if you haven’t been able to do so, you start by observing the Independence from Meat Day!
Independence from Meat Day is observed on 4th July every year to take a day off from your meat intake. Meat is an essential part of daily meals for tons of people in the world. The observance of this day gives you an opportunity to try out the vegetarian lifestyle for a day.
This observance was initiated by the Vegetarian Awareness Network in Tennessee. It has been aligned with the US Independence Day perhaps to convey the message that celebrations can take place even with vegetarian food. However, there are no reports to verify this information.
Although it started in the United States, it didn’t take much time for it to become a global celebration. The aim behind this day was to encourage a vegetarian diet and to lessen meat consumption at least for a day. The simplest way to celebrate this day is to adopt a plant-based diet for at least 24 hours.
Conflicts between Vegetarians and Non-vegetarians have always been there. Some base it on scientific grounds while some other use the ‘moral’ grounds. Some researches have suggest that vegetarians generally have better health. Also, adopting a vegetarian diet reduces the risk of various diseases.
So, are you ready to take up the No-meat challenge for a day?
