Manipur Government has started a scheme to purchase and preserve horticultural products with a Corpus fund of Rs. 3 crores. Manipur Chief Minister N.Biren Singh took to twitter to make the announcement on Monday.
The Chief Minister informed that this kind of arrangement has been made for the first time in the state. This scheme has been initiated to help the local farmers, he added.
As a part of this scheme, 100 MT pineapples have been brought from Jiribam. This lot of pineapples is then kept in Nilkhuthi cold storage. Jiribam is a border district of Manipur and is inhabited by multiple communities with Meitei being the largest ethnic group and is known for agriculture.
Normally the cultivators have to sell their fruits and vegetables at very low prices in the peak season. With lack of ample storage systems facilities, local producers do not get a good value of their crops. This corpus fund will enable farmers of the state to get a fair price of the produce.
A few days back Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal launched the PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PM FME). This scheme enables the set up of small food processing units under the #AtmaNirbharBharatAbhiyan .
