Nagaland Gets its First Organic AC Market

Nagaland’s first organic air conditioned market was inaugurated on Tuesday at Nagaland State Agricultural Marketing Board complex, Agri Expo site Dimapur. The inauguration was done by state Agriculture & Cooperation minister, G. Kaito Aye.

Addressing the occasion the Minister said this initiative will help in promoting the farmers and uplifting the farmers community.

The 42230 sq.ft market area accommodates 2000 sq.ft for the AC daily market, 1750 sq.ft area for cold storage of 100 MT capacity in two chambers (1000 for cold storage and 5000 for dry storage), 2700 sq.ft for collection and grading, packaging; 2500 sq.ft for mini-park & water fountain and the remaining area made available for parking and solar panel.

The Minister also called upon the departments to play active role and take advantage of the facilities and increase the production to become self-sufficient. The foundation stone for the construction of the farmers hostel at the premises was also laid down by the Minister on the occasion. The hostel which is scheduled to completed within a year will accommodate over hundred people.

State agriculture production commissioner, Y Kikheto Sema said that focusing on Agri-allied sectors will generate more employment opportunities as the state doesn;t have much scope for large or medium scale industries. A daily organic market within the complex is also cards as stated by Kikheto.

The total cost of the project for the market was Rs 948 funded by Ministry of Agriculture and Framers Welfare under CSS (RKVY- additional grant 2018-19).
