Northeast’s first Kisan Rail Flagged Off from Tripura

AGARTALA: The first ever Kisan Rail in the Northeast was flagged off from Agartala by the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday. The train carries 11.5 Metric Tonnes of different varieties of pineapple produced by the farmers of West Tripura and Sepahijala districts of Tripura.

As per schedule, the train will reach New Delhi in 48 hours. Reportedly, some more consignments will be loader feom Kumarghat, Dharmanagar and Ambassa. The announcement came from the railway minister Piyush Goyal over twitter.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Deb said that the main objective of the current government under the leadership of Modi is developing the agriculture sector. And that the launch of Kisan Rail project is an example of that development.

The Chief Minister said that that the launch of the Kisan Rail will be beneficial for the farmers of the state. Due to the ongoing pandemic, they have not bee able to sell or export much of their produce to other states. With initiatives like Kisan Rail, Deb hopes that the farmers hit hard by the pandemic will be able to stand on feet once again.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by agriculture minister Pranajit Singharoy and Lok Sabha MP Pratima Bhowmik during the flag off ceremony.
