Pani Puri Sale Banned in Kanpur Fearing Covid-19 Spread

Kanpur District Administration on Tuesday banned the sale of Pani puri. Also called Golgappa or Phuchhka, it is one of the most popular street food across India.

The decision for banning this street food delicacy was taken as a safety measure to contain the spread of Covid-19. The Administration felt that the crowd gathering at these street stalls might lead to the spread of the virus.

District Magistrate Dr Brahmadeo Ram Tiwari stated that there were several reports of these street stalls defying the safety norms after the relaxations were announced in the Unlock 1.0 phase.

“Besides, there was a lack of social distancing at these stalls and we have banned the sale of pani puri so that there is no further in Corona cases’, he said.

Tiwari added that most of the vendors at the Pani Puri stalls were found to be not wearing masks or gloves. Hence, to ensure safety, the administration came up with the decision to ban the sale of Pani Puris.
