Purabi Dairy has decided to increase prices of milk by Rs. 2 per liter with effect from today, the 8th of August 2021. The West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL), commonly called Purabi Dairy, has taken this step to increase the remuneration to the dairy farmers of the state of Assam.
The priced has been increased by Re. 1 per 500 ml pouch of Purabi Dairy milk, meaning an increase of Rs. 2 per litre. The procurement price of the unpasteurized produce has also been increased by Re. 1 per kilogram for the dairy farmers of the state. This step will help farmers meet the increasing prices due to growing inflation and COVID.
Ensuring proper prices will encourage more dairy farmers to associate with Purabi Dairy and also help the dairy sector to grow in the state. Also, it will encourage the growth of the co-operative structure of business leading to the benefits being assured to the actual farmers.
Speaking about the price increase, a spokesperson from the cooperative said, “Purabi Dairy, on behalf of more than 14,000 dairy farmers, seeks cooperation and continued patronage from all the valued and esteemed customers to support the dairy farmers of Assam.”
In the past few months, Purabi Dairy has managed to setup and launch Bulk Milk Cooling (BMC) Centers at Dhing, Kaliabor and Goalpara of Assam. It expanded its milk procurement belt to connect more than 50 Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS) – thus reaching out to dairy farmers at remote locations.
