Egg is that one versatile food item you can wonders with. It’s a savior when you have nothing else in the fridge. It comes handy when you have no time to cook or you do not have much equipment or ingredients to cook. On the occasion of World Egg Day, let’s explore some super easy but creative recipes that you can create with eggs.

1. Egg in a Hole

So, there’s bread and egg! What else do you want?

Ingredients:

  • A Slice of Bread
  • An Egg

Recipe:

Take a slice of bread. Use a round cutter and make a hole in the middle of the slice. If you do not have a cutter just use the edge of a glass to create the cavity. Do not make hole too small or too large. Now, heat a tawa and keep it on low flame. Melt some butter and toast the bread slice. While it’s being toasted, break an egg just in the hole in the slice of bread. Sprinkle some salt & chili flakes and voila!

2. Bird Nest

Ingredients:

  • An Egg
  • A Potato
  • Coriander branches/ Spring onions/ Lettuce or any green veggie of your choice.

Recipe:

Boil the egg, cut it into half and you are done for the egg part. For the nest you will need to shred a potato. After you are done shredding, put everything on a piece of cloth, squeeze out the excess water and pat dry. Add some salt, turmeric powder, and chili powder. Give it a good mix. Heat some oil and fry the shredded potato. And there you have your nest.

Take a plate and place some coriander branches or lettuce horizontally like a branch. Place the shredded potato fry over the green veggies. Just above the potato place the two halves of the egg upside down and there you have your own bird nest on a plate

3. Egg Chaat

We Indians have this tendency to ‘indianize’ everything. Here’s a trick with eggs.

Ingredients:

  • Boiled Eggs
  • Chopped Onions and tomatoes
  • Chopped green chilies
  • Fresh coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • Green Chutney (Optional)

Recipe:

Slice the boiled eggs into halves and place on a plate. Put chopped onions, tomatoes, chillies and coriander on each slice. Sprinkle some salt and there you have your own Egg chaat! You add more ingredients of your choice to make the eggs more chatpata.

4. Steamed Magic

This may take a little bit of your time but the process is really easy plus the result is worth a try.

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Mustard Oil
  • Small bowls

Recipe:

Take a bowl and smear some mustard oil on the inside. Break on egg on it. Now put the bowl inside saucepan. Add some water in the saucepan and let it boil. Make sure the water doesn’t go above the level of the bowl.  If you put too much water, the bowl will float and the egg will flow off. Now steam it for about 15 minutes. Take out the bowls and remember it will be hot so do not burn your hands. Take a spoon and slide around on the edge. As we smeared the mustard oil, the egg will come out nice and clean. Place the egg on a plate. Add salt and any other seasoning of your choice. It’s a healthy and tasty option for breakfast.
