A progressive farmers workshop cum training on production of high value crops and mushroom in high altitude region was conducted by Defense Research Laboratory (R&D) Center in its complex at Changbu village in Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday. Around 50 numbers of progressive farmers from different villages participated in the said workshop cum training.
Dr. B.J. Gogoi, in-charge Defense Research Laboratory Tawang, in his inaugural speech briefed the participants about DRL and its functions in Tawang sector.
KB Kayastha, Entomologist Department of Agriculture, Tawang in his speech as Chief guest of the function spoke on insect and pest management on different crops grown in Tawang area. While Ashok Naglot, scientist from Defense Research Laboratory informed the villagers on Mushroom production in Tawang and its scope. Other experts from Defense Research Laboratory Tezpur also spoke on different topics like, vermi-compost preparation its usage,organic farming ,sticky traps etc.
The Gaon Burah or village incharge of the Khinmey village and a progressive farmer from Shurbi village conveyed their gratitude to Defense Research Laboratory scientists for education and requested them to keep on guiding the farmers.Other farmers also shared their opinion and traditional methods of farming.
Mushroom is an excellent source of proteins and minerals specially in places where fresh cultivation is not possible throughout the year.
