Assam vibrated with enthusiasm on the 10th International Day of Yoga, held on June 21st, 2024. The state witnessed a wave of yogic energy as numerous events unfolded across its cities and towns.
The celebrations were marked by inclusivity, with participation from various segments of society. From senior citizens and government officials to energetic students and enthusiastic children, everyone came together to embrace the benefits of yoga.
Leading by Example
Setting the tone for the day, Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, participated in the state celebrations held at Tezpur. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was another prominent figure leading the yoga charge, performing asanas in Tinsukia.
The Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria, and Assam’s finance minister, Ajanta Neog, were among the dignitaries who graced the main event held at the Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati. This prominent venue, also known as Nehru Stadium, hosted a large gathering that included sportspersons, women, and children.
Yoga Spreads its Wings
The celebrations transcended major cities. Yoga camps were organized in schools, colleges, and educational institutions across the state. The Assam Police too joined the movement, with Director General of Police GP Singh sharing photographs of yoga camps held within police establishments.
A Day for All
This year’s theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” resonated throughout Assam’s celebrations. The events highlighted the significance of yoga not just for individual well-being but also for fostering harmony within the community.
From the energetic performances at the main event in Guwahati to the focused practice sessions in schools, Assam’s 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations were a resounding success. The day served as a powerful reminder of the unifying and transformative power that yoga holds.
