On the occasion of the World Blood Donor Day Keshab Mahanta, the new health minister of the Assam cabinet inaugurated a blood donation camp in Golaghat. The National Medicos Association, Assam undertook this initiative.
He also issued a statement on the occasion of World Blood Donors Day requesting the citizens of the state to donate blood, especially so during the COVID-induced crisis situation. He mentioned that the main objective of observing this day is to express gratitude to all the voluntary blood donors who selflessly donated blood to save lives of people whom they do not even know.
The health minister mentioned that the theme for this year’s World Blood Donor Day to be Give Blood and keep the World Beating.
He stressed on the importance of voluntary blood donation during the COVID-19 pandemic and about the safety of blood donation. Although the number of donations have come down during the lockdown, the requirement is still the same.
Any healthy person between the age of 10 and 65 can donate blood after proper verification. It can also be done after fourteen days of COVID vaccination said the health minister. He also told that blood donation is the most noble of deeds and requested more voluntary donors to come forward.
