In a recent development in the process to cure Covid – 19, a plasma bank has been set up in the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
“Glad to share that we’ve started a #PlasmaBank at GMCH. The first convalescent donor is a doctor himself, a #COVID19 patient. My gratitude to Dr Lithikesh for donating his plasma, and to the team who is working on this bank. I encourage cured patients to come forward & donate. ” This was a statement given on Himanta Biswa Sarma’s page on Friday afternoon.
Dr Lithikesh is a Senior Resident of the hospital who was among the first medicals staffs to be infected with the virus from Assam.
With thee rapid rise of Covid -19 positive cases, the Government of Assam has put the capital city Guwahati under a 14 day complete Lockdown. Also 1 lakh new testing kits were issued to the Covid Counselling Centers across the city on Friday. These kits have the capacity to give test results within an hour of test.
This welcome step comes after the positive results of plasma therapy was mentioned by the Health minister of Maharashtra in a Tweet. This was soon followed by the setting up of India’s First Plasma bank in New Delhi .
