The state of Sikkim has issued a new set of Standard Operating Procedures to control the spread of COVID-19 in the hill state. A similar order has been issued by the neighboring state of West Bengal. These steps are being taken as the number of positive cases are on a steep rise across the country and stand at nearly 30000 cases today itself.
Sikkim has decided to restrict public presence in all places to 50% of the total capacity. Meaning that all restaurants, bars, discos, cinema halls, gyms, saloons, spas etc will now have a limited capacity. The 50% rule is also valid to hotels, home-stays and guesthouses of the state. This order will be valid till the 10th of January.
West Bengal has also set a limit of 50% of the capacity and till 10 PM. Educational institutions will remain closed during this time. This includes all the public transport systems of the state as well. Swimming pools, gyms, spas, saloons, entertainment parks, zoos etc will all remain closed.
A limit of 50 people have been fixed for marriages and 20 for funerals. Local trains will operate till 7 PM with 50% capacity. Night curfew will be in effect from 10 PM to 5 AM everyday when only emergency vehicles are allowed.. And this order will stay valid till the 15th of January.
