In order to prevent crimes and ensure well-being of everyone in the digital space, a campaign named #TrueCyberSafe was flagged of today. This initiative is a collaboration between Truecaller, the CyberPeace Foundation and Assam Police.
The Covid-19 lockdowns have made more and more people people getting accustomed to the online means of communication as well as banking transactions. And this has opened up new avenues for fraud, deceit and forgery which could no longer be predicted. And preventing these requires a whole new set of skills to deal with.
This is the first time such an initiative has been taken by a law enforcement agency in the country. The initiative aims to create awareness and train people to tackle cyber frauds leading to a safer online experience for everyone. The safety training that begins from Assam will thereafter be conducted in 5 regions across India to increase awareness about the steps that our users can take to avoid fraud, spam and scams.
The launch of this initiative was done in an event in the Royal Global University in Guwahati. Some of the dignitaries present during this launch were Anurag Goel, IAS, Principal Secretary of the IT Department of Assam, Harmeet Singh, IPS, Commissioner of Pollice, Guwahati, Pragya Misra Mehrishi, Director of Public Affairs, Truecaller and Major Vineet Kumar, Global President and Founder, CyberPeace Foundation. Attendees of the event were members from the Police forces of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Representatives from the banking sector, student community and other walks of life were also present to launch the #TrueCyberSafe.
