The Ambubachi Mela 2023 begins successfully in Guwahati. The festival officially began at 2:30 AM on Friday. The ceremonial opening of the event was however conducted on Thursday. Tourism Minister of Assam, Jayanta Malla Baruah took part in the event.
Jayanta Malla Baruah formally inaugurated this year’s festival. Several key members of the administration and legislature were present for the event. The officials mentioned the steps taken by the state government towards the smooth conduct of the event. The security features have also been beefed up ahead of the event. Apart from installing hundreds of cameras across the hill, the police department has also appointed additional staff for this purpose. Strict regulations have also been imposed to control the flow of traffic during the festival.
Speaking on the occasion, the tourism minister mentions that religious tourism forms the bulk of domestic tourism in India. Not only in terms of the volume of travellers. Religious tourism also generates large finances. It also generated a good number of auxiliary industries and employment opportunities. He also mentioned the steps taken by the state government and the tourism department towards the promotion of the Ambubachi Mela. He added that over the years they have been able to broaden the list of prospective visitors. Previously only select tourists visited the city for the festival and restricted themselves to the temple and nearby areas. But now a larger number of tourists attend the festival and they travel to other locations as well.
The Ambubachi Mela 2023 is the largest spiritual festival in the region. And all the concerned departments of the state government are taking due steps for the same. The minister also inaugurated the camps established for the devotees. He also flagged off the bus services along with the Assistant Commissioner of Transport Gautam Das.
