The members of the Assamese Community of Bengaluru celebrated Janmashtami today in Bengaluru. This is the first major event of the community after a gap of two years.
Assamese Community of Bengaluru is one of the largest location based communities of Assamese people outside the state. Keeping up with the traditions of the state and its people, this community organize and celebrate most of the festivals of Assam. Popular among them are Bihu and Durga Puja celebrations. They also undertake social campaigns like flood relief measures from time to time.
Today the community organised Krishna Janmashtami among the members. More than 400 people participated in the festivities of the occasion. The event was organised by the Sreemanta Sankardeva Cultural Society, Bangalore in their Naamghar. Celebrations by the members also included the traditional Ojapali performance and Kirtan Paath. At the completion of the event, the traditional prasad was offered to all the devotees. The members also had a scrumptious meal with tradition khichri, labra and payokh just as it is celebrated in Assam.
They are also planing to celebrate Durga Puja like the previous years. All such gatherings were impossible for the previous two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the members were at their native availing work from home facilities during this period. They have also provided multiple rounds of flood relief this year, specially in the flood effected regions of Lower Assam.
