The Chief Minister of Meghalaya took part in the latest G20 event on July 6. He took part in the meeting of the Think20 or T20 group of the G20 group as a part of India’s G20 Presidency. T20 is the official engagement group of the G20 nations. It aims to increase collaboration between think tanks and experts to address the policy requirements of the G20. The T20 conference in Shillong is entitled Nature Solves: A New Framework for Our Sustainable Future. And it continues from July 5 to July 7, 2023.
Speaking on the occasion, Conrad Sangma expressed his pleasure over this event being hosted in Shillong. He also thanked the dignitaries coming from different parts of the country to participate in the event. The CM mentioned that the experts will beable to create blueprints for a sustainable future. He also mentioned the deep connections that the state and its people have had with nature for ages. And that the sustainable culture and lifestyle are in harmony with the planet.
The CM added that the communities of his state can pioneer a conservation-based lifestyle. And this can be taught to the world to create a new social and economic order. He also mentioned that the state is based on very rich biodiversity. And that the people of the state have been protecting the same for generations.
He also mentioned that the state has about 100 Sacred Groves in the Nature Solves meet. And these span over about 10000 hectares of land. Also, the state has more than 150 community-owned reserved forests covering nearly 2500 hectares. Adding that the communities treat conservation with utmost reverence, he said that the Sacred Groves are holy and divine parts of the forest. And that they represent the tradition of environmental conservation based on indigenous knowledge and culture.
