Located on the Northern Bank of the Brahmaputra river is the beautiful Hare Krishna Mandir. It is one of the must visit temples of the Guwahati city. Although the temple is open all the year round, Janmashtami and Holi are the best occasions to visit this temple.
The Hare Krishna Mandir was opened for public on the 15th of March 2021. It is managed by the Guwahati chapter of the Hare Krishna Movement. The regular workings of he temple start everyday at 4:15 AM with prayers and Tulsi Puja. 7:15 is the time for Arti, Guru Puja and Kirtan. This is followed by the reading of the Gita at 8 AM. In the evening, Tulsi Puja, Kirtan and evening Arti takes place at 6:15 PM. And the last prayers of the day are offered at 8 PM. Prasad is also given to devotees who visit the temple. Kheer and khichidi for on the spot consumption and biscuits and dry laddus for taking home for family and friends.
The same organisation also handles Akshaya Patra, which feeds almost 5000 meals per day across the city. They provide food to children across multiple schools as well as patients in many hospitals and other people who are in need. And that sums up to more than 60000 plates of food till date.
How to reach the Hare Krishna Temple
- The easiest way to reach the temple from Guwahati city is to take the Guwahati – North Guwahati Ropeway. Not only is it the fastest, but also offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Brahmaputra river.
- The second way to reach the temple is by using the ferry services. Two wheelers and small vehicles can a also be ferried across the river along with the people.
- The third way is to take the road. This is the longest as well as the most time consuming one.
