After a long and eager wait, Kokrajhar witnessed the first-ever match of the prestigious Durand Cup as a host on Saturday. Home team Bodoland Football Club came face to face with Rajasthan United Football Club in the match. Hosts Bodoland FC faced a 0:1 defeat at the hands of Rajasthan United FC in the first match of the 132nd Durand Cup held in Kokrajhar.
The only goal of the match came from the guest team at the very beginning of the second half. And William Pauliankhum managed to put one in the net in the 47th minute of the game. Rajasthan United FC showed more possession of the ball. They also had good control over the midfield during a major duration of the match. And William Pauliankhum and C Lalchungnunga managed to create gaps in the defense.
Didwn Hazowary and Rakesh Prashan led the defense of Bodoland FC among the Indian players. Anyichie Echezona from Nigeria also supported the defense of Bodoland FC. Thus denying the guests any chance of an easy goal. The team performed comparatively better on the defense front. But the attack front could not match the same of the guest team.
An event was also organized to mark the beginning of the first-ever Durand Cup matches in Kokrajhar. Union Defence Minister visited the town to be a part of this event. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also part of the audience of this match. Several officers from the armed forces also enjoyed the match along with BTR chief Pramod Boro. A martial arts show and a cultural presentation showcasing different dances were showcased during the event.
Although a large crowd visited the SAI Stadium, the rains played a spoilsport. Kokrajhar will see its next match on Monday. Odisha Football Club will face Indian Army Football Team in this match.
