The Tea Board India and the Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Assam on Sunday released the new logo of Assam Tea to commemorate 200 Glorious Years of Assam Tea. The new logo of Assam Tea was released in an event organized to celebrate International Tea Day.
The new logo of Assam Tea can now be used by producers and traders. This new logo is also expected to give a boost to the demand for the authentic Assam Tea. It will also help in preventing the sale of other varieties of tea in the name of Assam Tea.
It is important to note that tea has been like a backbone of the economy for nearly 2 centuries. Assam tea also generates huge avenues of employment and contributes immensely to the economy. In the annual budget, the Assam Government earmarked more than Rs 500 Cr for the industry for the coming fiscal year. And tea contributes to over 90% of the export from the state.
The state government also aims at the celebration of the 200 years long heritage of Assam tea in a very grand manner. The announcement regarding the same was made by the state finance minister in the budget session.
The ministers present for the event also gave away cheques of different amounts to small tea farmers across the state. This amount will help them buy vehicles for transporting the leaves.
As a part of the International Tea Day celebrations, the Guwahati Tea Auction Center also served tea free of charge. It was a bid to increase the popularity of this drink among the people of Guwahati.
