The Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Center today. The event also saw the presence of Assam Governor, Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with other dignitaries.
The Brahmaputra river is the lifeline for the state of Assam. It not only provides water, but also creates fertile soil for cultivation. It provides the waterway routes for both transportation of people and goods as well as leisure activities like cruises and water sports. It also creates the fertile lowlands of the Kaziranga National Park, and the plants growing in these regions feed the wild animals of the park, directly or indirectly. The banks of this majestic river have become the meeting point of different cultures and tribes of multiple ethnic origins across time.
It is to honor this majestic river and the cultures and their histories that were born in its banks, the Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Center has been created. This one of a kind museum will showcase everything related to the river. The exhibits of this museum will changed from time to time to accommodate for newer or older exhibits. This museum has been housed in the renovated, nearly 150 year old British bungalow situated on the banks of the Brahmaputra.
The Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Center is going to serve as an excellent tourism attraction in the state once it opens for all tourists. It is also planned to be a part of the Guwahati Heritage Walk project.
