India Bans Export of all Varieties of Onions

Government of India on Monday took the decision to put a ban on export of all varieties of onions. The ban also includes Bangalore rose and Krishnapuram varieties of onions. However, those cut, sliced or reduced to powder form have been exempted from this ban.

The decision was taken to contain the spike in price and also to increase the availability of the commodity in domestic market. The domestic market has been facing shortage of onions because of heavy rain and floods.
