Ministry of Railways has decided to operate 40 pairs (80) of special trains from 12th September 2020. The ministry has taken the decision after consultation with Ministry of Health & Family welfare (MoHFW) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The main objective of introducing these trains is to facilitate return of migrant workers to their respective places. These 40 pairs of special trains shall be operated as per the details mentioned below.
The booking of accommodation in these trains shall start from the 10th of September, 2020. The trains will also be under the category fully reserved trains.
These trains have been provided in addition to the existing 230 special trains including 30 Rajdhani type trains which started w.e.f. May 12 and 200 Mail Express introduced w.e.f. June 1.
The Ministry is also planning to introduce “clone trains” which will run just ahead of the ones which have a long waiting list for more than seven to ten days.
A large number of Indians work in places far from their homes and they all had to return because of the pandemic. These new trains will facilitate these people to return back to their workplace in the current version of reopening named as Unlock 4.
