Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday said that India has set up individual bilateral air bubbles with the United States and France. With this arrangement, airlines from the countries in the pact will be allowed to operate international flights. Puri added that a similar pact will be made with Germany and the United Kingdom soon.
These bilateral air bubbles are basically travel corridors between two countries that mutually agree to reopen their borders and re-establish connections with each other.
Air France will begin its operations from 18th July to 1st August. There will be 28 flights flying between Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Paris.
The Aviation Minister added that the American carrier United Airlines will be flying 18 flights between India and the US from July 17 to July 31.
Since the number of carriers are limited, the number of people travelling are also controlled. This in turn enables proper checking at each entry point for infected patients.
This announcement comes after an ease on Visa was declared by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Air travel was allowed for domestic passengers under Unlock 2 of the country, but foreign travel was not allowed till now.
