Bollywood actor Sonu Sood arranged a special flight for around 180 migrants from Assam who were stranded in Mumbai. The migrants were carried in a chartered flight from Mumbai to Silchar in Assam operated by AirAsia.
This is the 12th flight under the Umeed Ki Udaan initiative by AirAsia India which was started to help migrant employees attain their houses throughout the coronavirus-induced lockdown. Anup Manjeshwar, Sales and Distribution head, AirAsia India mentioned it was a pleasure working with Sonu Sood on this initiative, which had impressed many others to assist these efforts.
“We wanted to help these Assamese migrants reunite with their families and that’s when we decided to arrange a special flight for them. I was extremely emotional to see their smiling faces as they were excited to experience air travel and eventually meet their families and friends. I’m happy I could be there for them in these trying times when they needed help the most’, the actor said in a statement.
