Tourism Minister Prahlad Patel on Thursday urged the Indian Film Industry to consider the Northeastern region of India for shooting their films. Along with Northeast, the Minister also suggested Himalayan states as well as ASI protected sites as shooting locations.
The Minister cited that as the people of the film industry won’t be able to go abroad for shooting, they can opt to shoot within the country itself. Shooting a film within the country will not only align with the Atmanirbhar Bharat concept but also promote various locations, said the Minister at an FICCI event in New Delhi.
He further said that if the industry seeks permission for shooting at ASI protected sites, it can be granted within 15-20 days of filing an online application.
The Minister also appealed to the film industry to choose less popular sites along with the popular ones. “If they show two places with low footfall suggested by us along with two high footfall ones, it will help in promoting the place and people abroad will know about it”, Patel added.
Tourism and its allied industries comprise of an important percentage of the income of the Northeastern states of India. And this makes it one of the worst effected regions of the country. This step will definitely promote the tourism sector post the Covid-19 pandemic.
Koyla, Rock On 2 and Rangoon are some of the famous movies shot in the Northeastern part of India.
