The International Tiger Day is an event organised across the world to celebrate this big cat. And the Kaziranga National Park was no exception to this celebration.
Like previous years a lot of competitions were organised by the park authorities to commemorate this day. Noteworthy among them were the painting competition in which more than hundred participants from thirteen educational institutions. An open quiz was also hosted on Twitter to promote the day. The top three winners of this contest will win Rs. 15000 , Rs. 10000 and Rs 5000 respectively. There will also be three consolation prize winners of this contest. All the winners will also get a complementary jeep safari in the park in the next tourism season. Also these complementary safaris will be for two people per winner.
39 staff members who have worked for more than 33 years were also felicitated during the event. Also ex gratia was paid to 18 families in the region by the WWF whose cattle were killed by the tigers. A tree plantation program was also taken up as a part of the event. Students and staff of the educational institutions took part in this plantation program.
The National Tiger Conservation Society had also congratulated Kanziranga authorities for their efforts in tiger conservation last year.
