In an attempt to present Northeast Indian cuisines infront of the world, Assamese Chef Gautam Thakuria created an elaborate menu for an event in London. The event was organised in the Nehru Center under the support of the High Commission of India in London. Officials from the High Commission of India were also present for the event.
The event named The 8 Sisters Meet aimed to showcase and celebrate the Northeastern States of India. The Women of North East Support Network ( WNESN) was the organizer of this event along with the Nehru Center. A gallery to showcase a host of traditional handicrafts, garments and jewelry from the region was created.
Beautiful creations by Temsuyanger Longkumer and Bali Chakravarty Agbo were part of the exhibition. The guests also enjoyed a Food Testing Session by Chef Gautam Thakuria.
“I prepared more than 14 unique, flavorful dishes from different parts of this region and tried to upgrade our cuisine to the next level for platting and global taste buds.” mentioned Chef Gautam Thakuria in a post in social media.
The menu started with a thekera and pudina mojito and dailor bor with traditional chutney. Robab tenga and raw mango were on the salad. While the main course contained a variety of dishes from Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, payokh and kol pitha was for dessert.
The exhibition was opened from the evening of the 10th of October and continue till the 14th of October. And it will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM on these dates.
Assamese Chef Gautam Thakuria who is originally from Nalbari in Assam, is currently the Head Chef of Bayleaf Restaurant in London. He has also won many awards in the past.
