World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated on the 28th of July worldwide. This observation is of upmost importance given the rapidly degrading conditions of nature and weather.
Man- made causes contribute to the majority of the causes of environmental depletion. So Discover East brings a few steps to protect and preserve nature on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day.
Plant More Trees.
Afforestation is the solution to a lot of problems concerning the environment. Trees purify the air and provide us oxygen which indispensible for our existence. Also, planting trees is going to come extremely handy in crisis situation like this.
Reduce use of fossil fuels, directly and indirectly.
Burning fossil fuels releses nitrogen oxides into the air which results in formation of smog and acid rain. Nitrogen pollution affects the quality of the air we breathe, as well as the land and the water. Conservation of eletrical use at home can help in reducing fossil uses. Also, alternative transporation options like riding a bicycle cuts the use of fossul fuel.
Minimize the use of single use plastics.
Plastic has been a foe to the environment. Plastic pollution is not only posing a threat to human health but also has been jeopardizing marine animals like whales and sea turtles. We can reduce the use of single use plastics by using alternatives like reusable bags, paper bags, cloth bags etc.
Discourage and Report Illegal Activities.
Activities like poaching, illegal trafficking of wildlife and even uncontrolled logging pose a great threat to the conservation of nature and environment. Constitition of India has laws for the protection and conservation of nature. Read more about the laws here.
Build Alternative Livelihood for people living near Forest Areas.
People living near forest areas depend on the forest resources for their livelihood. The govt should make sustainable arrangements for ensuring livelihood options for these people.
All these steps will definitely go a long way on the way to protection of nature on the World Nature Conservation Day.
