World Tourism Day is one of the United Nations Observance Days on the 27th of September every year. It is organised annually under the headers of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation. It seeks to promote development of developing member nations using the tools of the tourism.
The tourism sector is by far the biggest largest employment generating sector worldwide. The ongoing Covid – 19 global pandemic has hit this sector the hardest.
Every year The United Nations World Tourism Organisation selects a theme for the year and a host country to showcase. This year’s theme for the day is Tourism and Rural Development.
And for the first time in the history of World Tourism Day, the 2020 official celebration will be hosted by a group of countries and not a single Member State. The cross-border cooperation of the MERCOSUR Member States (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, plus Chile, Member Associate) reflects the current need for international solidarity and cooperation. This is especially true for tourism, working together towards a common goal.
With the whole world still suffering from the Covid -19 pandemic and its after-effects, the tourism sector has the prospects of rebuilding the global economy.
