One of the most popular theater events of the country, the Under the Sal Tree Theatre Festival will start next week from the 15th of December. The three day event will showcase several theater groups from India and abroad presenting their work in front of the audience.
The venue of the festival is what makes Under the Sal Tree so famous. Located in the midst of a sal forest, the venue has the perfect natural vibe to it. All the arrangement sare made using locally available bamboo and straw. Thus making it one of the most eco-friendly event destinations of the country, specially in the theatre arena.
Created under the efforts the Late Sukracharjya Rabha, the event is celebrating 13 years of inception this year. This years artists come from several parts of the country to present their acts in Rabha, English, Hindi, Bengali and Marathi. A team from Sri Lanka will also visit this year and present their act in English.
Under the efforts of its late creator, this festival has managed to carve a niche in its sector. By introducing and propagating the concept of Hygiene Theatre, this event has grabbed many eyeballs both in India and overseas. By conducting the event with the least possible impact to nature, the organises aim to highlight the symbiotic relationship with nature. The Badungduppa Kalakendra located in the Rampur village in the Goalpara district of Assam. And it has earned international acknowledgement for the open-air theatre festival Under the Sal Tree.
