Guwahati: The 14th Chandubi Festival was flagged off amidst great pomp and celebration today. The event has been organised on the banks of the serene Chandubi Lake. The 14th Chandubi Festival has been organised with a five-day schedule.
The inaugural event started in the first half of the day with the president of the organising committee of the 14th Chandubi Festival, Subash Chinal hoisting the ceremonial flag. The festival was officially flagged off by local MLA Hemanga Thakuria. The vice chairman of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Basanta Rabha ceremoniously opened the resthouse. Senior advocate Tapan Das inaugurated the exhibition cum sale area titled Langabura.
Sumit Rabha, executive member of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council inaugurated the Chandra Sadagar Memorial stage. Pankaj Lochan Goswami, joint vice-president of the Asom Jatiya Parishad flagged off the traditional games and sports. N Sargiary opened the expo for the public while Rashmibala Rabha did the same with the ethnic food arena.
The festival committee also organised an open meeting after the formal inauguration. The president of the Borduar Bhulagaon unit of the Rabha Students Union, Kameshwar Rabha participated in the meeting along with the rest of the dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA of Palashbari emphasised the natural beauty of Chandubi. He also spoke about the key role played by the annual festival in the development of the tourism sector. Hemanga Thakuria also mentioned the unique landscape and biodiversity of the region. And stressed the importance of conserving the same for the generations to come.
The 14th edition of the festival has a five-day schedule. The organisers have mentioned that they are expecting a large number of visitors this year. They also mentioned that proper care has been taken to ensure that everyone has a good time and the event is conducted smoothly. Inviting everyone to be a part of the festival, they have also asked the visitors to keep the locality clean.
The event is scheduled to end on Friday with the traditional campfire in the evening.
