The two day Sylhet-Silchar Festival is happening on the 2nd and 3rd of December in the Barak Valley of Assam. Thus event aims to mark the 75th year of India’s independence . It also coincides with the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s liberation from Pakistan.
This event is also an attempt to boost the bilateral trade and cultural relations between the two countries. Sylhet-Silchar Festival has been organized by the India Foundation under the Union Ministry of Culture in association with the Bangladesh Foundation for Regional Studies.
The event wishes to revisit the age old ties between the two regions share a lot of similarities and got separated during the partition of the country. Representatives aim to showcase the culture, arts, cuisines and much more in this event. It is being hailed by many as the fist step towards a new era of friendship between the two nations. Artists, academicians, social and political leaders and practitioners from different fields are part of it.
Several eminent persons from both the countries are also taking part in this event. These include the Union Minister for Culture, GK Reddy, Minister of State for External Affairs, Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh and Mizoram Governor Dr Kambhampati Hari Babu from the Indian side. Foreign Affairs Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and High Commissioner to India Md Mustafizur Rahman represented Bangladesh. Several other politicians and bureaucrats from both the countries are attending this celebration.
Several key decisions regarding trade and commerce as well as tourist and development is expected to be taken here.
