The 4th edition of the National Level Adingiri Theatre Festival came to an end today. Hundreds of enthusiasts came down to the location to enjoy the presentations amidst lush green nature.
Adingiri Rastriya Natyo Utsav is a celebration of theatre art and aims to attract more people towards this art. Theatre tourism and nature preservation some other concepts that the organizers, Abhigyanm, try to promote through this two day event. The venue of the event is the Abhigyanm Natyokhetra, located in the Shankardev Nagar region. Located in the Adingiri hills of Guwahati, this location overlooks the Maligaon region.
This year’s Adingri Theatre Festival was hosted in a two day format on 21st and 22nd January. The event showcased a total of four plays in these two days. The opening play of the event was Gopi Gayan Bagha Bayan , a theatrical adaptation of the film by Satyajit Ray. The participants of the children’s theater workshop conducted by Abhigyanm enacted this play. Majuli, a play from Abhigyanm was next on the list for the viewers on Saturday.
The children of Divyanga Natya Vidyalaya presented Amar Choupakh as the first play on Sunday. Pebet was the next presentation of the festival. Kalakhetra Manipur created and presented is play which has won multiple awards in the national arena.
The best part of this festival is its presentation in the midst of nature. Steps cut into the hillside and benches made from locally available bamboo served as the seats for the viewers. Minimal use of non-biodegradable materials in the presentations is another important part of the event. Tented accommodation for artists and enthusiasts was also a step towards promoting eco-friendly tourism.
