Sidhanku Ankur Barua, the President of Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha Assam Pradesh, felicitated the winners of the latest Food Photography contest organised by Guwahati Foodie in a small event in Hotel Shoolin Grand.
Guwahati Foodie had organized a Food Photography Contest to spread awareness of the local cuisines of the state. This contest was started on the World Tourism Day, that is the 27th of September and continued till the World Food Day, that is the 16th of October. It was open for all members of the nearly 1,30,000 strong Guwahati Foodie group. Participants could send in any number of entries for this contest. And the picture had to represent either a single dish or a platter of food of any of the communities of Assam.
Out of more than 500 entries, a total of 3 were selected as winner through a two level selection process by an expert panel of judges. They are Alongbar Basumatary for a traditional Boro platter, Garima Baruah for pitha and tea, and Sikha Moni Das for an Assamese platter,
While congratulating the contestants, Sidhanku Ankur Barua said “It is a positive sign for the society that the youth take interest in cooking and presenting the traditional cuisines of the state. This will go a long way to preserve as well as exhibit the culture and traditions of Assam to the rest of the world.
Apart from other events like EATucation, and festival specific contests, Guwahati Foodie organizes these Ethnic Food Photography contests to popularize the traditional cuisines of the region. Sisir , the founder of Guwahati Foodie said ” The core idea behind these contests is to let people know the difference between a truly ethnic dish of the region and a fusion dish”. He also thanked all the sponsors for supporting this initiative.
