The Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission has hosted the Asomi SARAS Mela 2022 in the capital city of Guwahati. It was opened for public yesterday and will remain open till the 6th of March. It is held in the Ganesh Mandir Indoor Stadium Field in Khanapara in Guwahati, Assam.
The Asomi SARAS Mela is held every year to provide market opportunities to individuals and well as self help groups and non government organisations working in traditional products. Producers of traditional handloom and handicraft, ethnic food products and gifts and souvenir showcase and sale their products in this event.
This year’s event is going to be a 10 day affair. It will have a variety of competitions including cooking, painting, games, traditional mehendi, health and dental camps and poetry during the day. Cultural programs will be hosted in the evening. While the business side is open from 10:30 AM to 8 PM everyday.
A total of 113 stalls are participating in this version of the mela. 59 out these are from Assam while 53 are from the other participating states. A total of 18 participating states, including Assam are part of this event. The other states are Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telengana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and West Bengal. Bangladesh is also participating as a foreign nation in this event.
